On October 13, 2023, The Baptist College of Florida (BCF) held its last Preview Day as BCF. Although bittersweet, the environment was full of anticipation, and it was a wonderful opportunity for prospective students to get a glimpse of what life is like as an eagle. A prospective student Hilton Wortman said, “I enjoyed visiting the campus and meeting current students. Everyone worked hard to make us feel welcome. It is obvious that a lot of fun happens here.”
The day started with an inspiring chapel service and a message from President Dr. Clayton Cloer. “A Big Moment in Your Life,” was the focus of Dr. Cloer’s message from 2 Peter 3:3-11. Following the chapel service, the Mills Center was filled with prospective students and their families as they listened to and participated in a student panel. Representing their division, five students were selected to discuss topics like the academic rigor of classes, how to adjust to college, and life in the dorms. The day continued as prospective students asked questions of faculty, staff, and students in every department during a meet-and-greet in the Wellness Center along with breakout sessions. After lunch and a tour of the freshman dorms, the day finished with games and four $1,000 scholarship drawings.
Mark Bateman, BCF alumnus said, “It was a joy to be back on campus and see all the new life and exciting opportunities for students preparing for ministry. The students I brought were impressed with campus life and how the professors and students care for each other. They are also excited to see the name change to BUF!”
Preview Day was also a time for the school to look forward to the exciting changes ahead becoming the Baptist University of Florida (BUF). Savannah McVay, Director of Admissions, said, “Preview Day was the tangible evidence that something indeed has changed. The current students felt it, the staff felt it, and the prospective students felt it. The Lord is moving.”
Dr. Clint Ellis, Senior Pastor at Fellowship Baptist Church in Tallahassee, FL said, “Preview Day was great! There was a tangible excitement among the current students and faculty about what God is preparing to do at the Baptist University of Florida in the days ahead! The students we brought with us left excited about the information presented to them and have much to consider as they make decisions about their future education.”
Preview Day was a great success. It was a testament that BUF truly is a community with a shared purpose to serve the Lord in everything.
